Thank you Linda. I received a registry edit error when executed the program. Note that only system processes were running. I am not absolutely positive but I think the ability to create a folder was only possible after the 2nd time I executed newfolder.

If the Registry is blank in that data area, it won't secure a spot for Folder to show up in the New context menu. Thank you both for your work on this. It worked a treat. I immediately uninstalled the lot but it wasn't until a day or two later that I found I could only create compressed folders and my normal create folder icon was missing. I don't get it and yes by simply typing Folder in that field then refreshing worked like a charm. Why do all these techies have to over complicate the problem by adding all that mumbo jumbo about registry lines that you don't even need anyway. This has got to be the most simplest fix since the birth of the computers.

I finally managed to update the the system registery files by opening regedit and then importing the files through it. This has really corrected the "new folder" creation issue! I went to Desktop, and NewFolder. I did a search for the file, and clicked what was found with this name, but received an error message "You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor. I don't remember making system changes, installing new programs or doing other things that might have caused a register change.
